Guy at a flea market in Tulsa handed me a broken Nikon F2 and said 'make it talk again'
I asked what he meant and he just pointed at the shutter and said it should sound like a door closing in a quiet house, and honestly that one sentence has changed how I listen to every camera I open up since, has anyone else had a customer describe a repair in a way you still use?
You ever notice how the guys who talk like that are usually the ones who never actually fixed anything themselves? I get what you're saying about the poetry of it, but half the time when a customer gives me some flowery description I end up chasing the wrong problem for an hour. A shutter that sounds like a door closing in a quiet house could mean the curtain timing is off, the brake is dragging, or the whole thing just needs a CLA, and those are three VERY different jobs. Give me a guy who says "it hangs at the slow speeds" any day over the philosopher at the flea market.
