Had a guy bring in a vintage Nikon with the shutter stuck... from him trying to 'oil it' with cooking spray.
He said he saw a video about 'light lubrication' and figured vegetable oil was close enough. The whole curtain is gummed up and now it needs a full strip and clean. Anyone ever seen a home fix that made you just stop and stare for a minute?

Wow, that is a painful story to read. Used to think some home fixes were clever until a friend wrecked a nice lens with furniture polish. Some people just see a video and run with the worst idea possible. Now it just makes me sad because that camera is probably toast.

Forget the camera, imagine the poor person who has to clean that mess up later. That gunk gets into EVERY little groove and screw hole.
