Rant: That tiny spring in a Pentax K1000 viewfinder cost me a whole afternoon

Everyone says the K1000 is simple, but I had one where the mirror was stuck up. I thought it was the mirror foam, but it was a tiny spring behind the prism that had popped off its post. Finding the right angle to get it back on with tweezers, without dropping it into the body, took me about four hours. I must have tried twenty times before it finally clicked into place. Has anyone else had a 'simple' repair turn into a huge time sink like that?

Ugh, that sounds maddening. Did you have to take the whole top cover off to even see that spring, or was there some trick to it?

Saw a video where they got it out with a bent paperclip, lol.

Actually, that tiny spring is in the mirror box, not behind the prism.
