Tried dental floss to hold a shutter blade and the camera actually fired
I was mid repair on a 1970s rangefinder last week in my basement shop in Dayton and ran out of the thin wire I usually use to hold shutter blades in place, so I grabbed my wife's floss as a joke. It held for about 40 seconds, the camera wound and fired, and the blade got yanked halfway across the frame for a second before the thing jammed again. The point is the shutter still moves fine and I learned floss has just enough stretch to fool you into thinking it's working, which is exactly the kind of lie you don't want in a repair. What's your go-to when you run out of the right tool halfway through a tear down?
