Warning: A cheap lens spanner from Amazon just cracked a filter ring I was trying to save
I was working on a vintage 50mm f/1.4 and the filter ring was stuck. I bought a $15 spanner tool online to get it off. When I applied pressure, the tool's tips slipped and gouged a deep scratch into the ring, making it worse. Now I need to find a replacement part. Has anyone found a good brand for these tools that won't damage old lenses?

Honestly, that cheap tool story reminds me of stripping a screw with a bad driver last week.

Actually, a stripped screw is usually from the wrong size driver, not just a cheap one. Even good tools will mess things up if they don't fit right. Getting the proper bit is the real fix.

But @amy_reed79, how often does that actually happen though.
