Everyone on here acts like you need to drop $300+ on a down bag or you'll freeze, and I just don't buy it anymore. Two seasons ago I did a trip in the Ozarks in November, it dropped to 28 degrees at night, and I was fine in a $40 synthetic bag I grabbed at a Walmart in Springfield on the way out. I had a decent pad under me, that matters way more than people admit. The bag weighs almost 4 pounds so yeah it's heavy if you're doing long miles, but for car camping and short hikes it's totally fine. I've had it for 3 years now with zero issues, no zipper breaks, no cold spots. Maybe it's just me but I think half the price tag on fancy bags is the logo and the weight savings, not actual warmth. What's your real cutoff where a cheap bag actually fails you, like what temp did you personally hit the wall at?
