My brother in law said to skip the footprint and just use a tarp, cost me a wet sleeping bag in Asheville
He swore up and down that a $12 tarp from the hardware store works just as good as a footprint under your tent, so I tried it on a trip near Asheville last month. Rain came through for about 3 hours and water pooled right under my pad because the tarp edges stuck out past the tent floor. My sleeping bag got soaked and I ended up sleeping in the car. Anyone else had a tarp backfire like that, or did I just cut it wrong?
