Client's persistent crashes traced to bad outlet - how common is this?

Last week, a buddy who runs a PC repair shop called me over. His client had several systems dying at random times, no clear pattern. He had swapped RAM, tested drives, and reinstalled OS, but the issue kept coming back. I brought my voltage meter and checked the wall outlet the main rig was plugged into. The reading showed unstable voltage, thanks to a worn connection in the building's old wiring. After I tightened it up, the crashes stopped completely. Some techs I know say power problems are too rare to check every time, while others think it should be a first step for any weird hardware fault. From my side, I see similar issues in shops and homes, but I get that computer work has its own pace. What's your take? Do you make power quality a routine check, or only after everything else?

You said he kept it off because it was hot. Look, how many times does a tool actually drop right on someone's head up there? I've worked plenty of jobs where guys ditch the hat in the heat and the sky doesn't fall. It's a roof, not a steel mill. Yeah, safety guys love their rules, but rushing to get the guy canned feels like overkill. Sometimes you just gotta pick your battles.

Ugh exactly this. @the_john hit the nail on the head. It's not just a color swap, it's about actual contrast and not burning your eyes. That lazy gray-on-gray so many apps use is worse than bright mode. They don't test it on different screens so what looks fine on one phone is a blurry mess on another. A good dark mode is a real feature, a bad one is just a checkbox.
