Pro tip: I stopped hauling a camp stove and now boil water on a $22 alcohol burner
Two summers back I stood in a store in Bend, Oregon staring at a $90 canister stove and a $22 Trangia alcohol burner for almost 40 minutes. I went with the cheap burner. Budget won. Every trip since, that little thing has boiled my water in about 6 minutes with just a splash of denatured alcohol. The canister stove guy next to me at the campsite last month spent 15 minutes fussing with a clogged jet while my coffee was already done. I get it, canister stoves crank harder and work in real cold. But I only do weekend trips in mild weather, so the tradeoff costs me nothing. If you are car camping with a cooler, why pay 4x for speed you do not need? Tell me what finally made you switch, or why you are still team canister.
