Skeptical about cheap trekking poles, now I swear by them

Last summer I bought a $35 pair of Cascade Mountain poles at a Dick's in Boise, figured they'd snap by mile 5 on the Sawtooth loop. They held up through 40 miles of rocky trail and one nasty creek crossing. My old $120 Black Diamond poles felt stiff and clunky after that trip. Anyone else downgrade their gear and find it works better than the pricey stuff?

Man, that hits the nail on the head. It’s like the whole world flipped upside down on us. I see it everywhere now, not just with gear. Cheap store brand cereal tastes better than the fancy stuff half the time, and my $20 sneakers from the discount rack outlasted a pair of name brand shoes I paid triple for. We’ve been brainwashed into thinking price equals quality, but really, it just equals marketing and a fancy logo. Once you break that spell, you start noticing all the overpriced junk you’ve been dragging around for years. Good on you for finding that out on the trail, saves you a ton of cash for the next trip.
