Unpopular opinion: my $12 foam sleeping pad beat my $150 inflatable on a 30 degree night in Blanding
So I did a dumb thing on purpose last month. Left the fancy inflatable at home and took the cheap closed cell foam pad out to Utah, 4 nights near Blanding, lows around 30. I figured I'd wake up stiff and hate it. Instead the foam pad was the only thing that kept me warm, because the inflatable I've been using doesn't have much R value and I never checked. Froze less on a $12 pad than I have on $150 ones. Now I can't tell if I've been buying hype this whole time or if foam just works better for cold ground. Anyone else go backwards on gear and end up happier? Or am I just a weirdo who likes sleeping on a floor mat?
