Hot take: that 'change your oil every 3,000 miles' rule might be straight up wrong
I grew up hearing 3,000 miles from my dad and every guy at the shop in Bakersfield, so I never questioned it. Then my brother showed me his 2019 Civic owner's manual says 7,500 miles under normal driving, and he's at 140k with zero engine trouble. Now I'm stuck between thinking the 3k rule is just shops wanting more money, or that it's cheap insurance for older engines. Where do you all land on this?
