Just found out the 3,000 mile oil change is basically a myth for most modern cars
I was reading my 2019 Corolla's manual last week and it says every 10,000 miles under normal driving, not the 3,000 my dad drilled into me. Called two shops in Austin and both still push the 3,000 thing, which makes me wonder if it's just easy money. Anyone else gone by the manual and had zero problems long term?

My dad was a mechanic and he swore by 3,000 miles, so I did that for years without questioning it. Then I read up on it and learned that newer engines and better oil really do last longer, and the manual is the one who built the car so they know best. I switched to following the book and my last two cars both went past 150k miles with no engine issues at all.

Did the same thing with my old truck, @rose_murray, and it ran forever once I stopped the 3k habit.
