Everyone told me to skip brokers and book direct, so I did and it went bad
Everyone on here says cut out the broker and save money. So last April I booked direct with a small carrier out of Ohio to move my Civic from Denver to Cleveland, and the guy showed up 3 days late with a beat up one car trailer. He wanted $200 cash on top of the $850 quote and my bumper got a fresh scrape. A broker I used before just put me with a real company and I never had to chase anyone. Anyone else had a direct booking go sideways, or did I just get unlucky?

Yikes, that sounds like a total mess. I saw a thread on a moving forum where a guy booked direct with some small outfit and the driver demanded extra cash at the drop off, said the quote didn't cover "fuel costs." Total scam move. The thing with small carriers is they don't have anyone to answer to when stuff goes wrong. A broker at least has a rep to protect, so they fix problems faster. You're not the only one this happened to, but that doesn't make it suck less.
