Tried to save $150 on shipping my Corolla from Phoenix to Portland, and a guy named Ray at the terminal in Phoenix said one thing that stuck with me
So I was moving from Phoenix to Portland back in April and needed to get my 2006 Corolla up there without driving it 1,400 miles. I got a quote for $950 from one of those online brokers, then another guy quoted me $1,100, and I was about to book the cheaper one. I showed up at the terminal lot off Buckeye Road to drop the car off, and this older guy Ray who was checking in cars looked at my paperwork and just shook his head. He said, and I quote, "Son, if it's too cheap, the driver ain't getting paid enough to care." He told me the low bid usually means they wait around for a full load and your car sits for two weeks, or they hand it off to some guy with a beat up trailer. I ended up paying the $1,100 and my car showed up in Portland in 4 days with no scratches. Ray retired like a month later apparently, but that one line saved me a lot of headache. Has anyone else had a broker lowball them and then jack up the price once your car is already on the truck?
