I finally picked hot glue over tape for a mockup and it changed everything

I was building a cardboard prototype for a new toolbox insert and had to choose between hot glue and packing tape to hold the dividers together. Went with hot glue because I thought it would be faster, but now the joints are super rigid and I can't adjust the spacing without tearing the cardboard. Has anyone else found that tape gives you more room to tweak things before you commit?
