Always thought networking events were a waste until I tried the approach a guy from Chicago taught me

I used to hate those mixer things where everyone just trades business cards and nothing happens. But this agent I met at a panel in Dallas told me to just ask people one specific question about their biggest challenge that month instead of pitching myself. I tried it at three events last month and got two solid leads out of it. Has anyone else found a different trick that actually works for these things?

Yeah that's basically what I started doing too. I just ask people what they're working on that's driving them crazy right now. Makes the whole thing way less awkward.

Is it really driving anyone crazy or is that just overstating a minor annoyance?
