DAE think certificates and bootcamps are overrated for mid level jobs? My buddy in Denver got passed over for a $95k role despite 3 certs
I was grabbing coffee with a buddy in Denver last month and he was pretty upset. He spent about $4,000 on three different data certificates over 14 months and still got turned down for a mid level analyst job paying $95k. The hiring manager actually gave him feedback that stuck with me. She basically told him the certificates showed he could pass tests but not that he could solve messy real problems. Meanwhile another guy with no certs got the job because he showed how he cut a weekly report from 6 hours down to 45 minutes using a simple script. That made me rethink the whole credential chasing thing. I get why people do it, it feels safe and structured. But most hiring managers I know care more about one clear story of you fixing something than five certificates on a wall. So my real question is for people who did go the cert route, did it actually open doors or did you have to prove yourself some other way once you got in?
