I paid $250 for a resume review that just told me to add more keywords
Two years ago I was trying to move from classroom teaching into curriculum design, so I paid a company $250 for a professional resume review. The woman on the call spent 20 minutes reading my resume out loud, then said I should add more industry keywords and maybe get a certification. That was it. No rewrite, no examples, nothing I could not have gotten from a free video. I checked their site later and the same package is now $300. If you are thinking about paying for a resume service, ask them upfront exactly what you get in writing before you hand over your card, because "review" can mean almost anything. Has anyone here actually found a resume service that was worth the money, or is it all just keyword stuffing?

That is so frustrating, I am sorry you went through that. Dropping $250 just to have someone read your resume back to you and say "add keywords" is rough, especially when you could have watched a free YouTube video and learned the same thing. I had a friend pay around $200 for a "premium" package and all she got was a template she could have downloaded for free and a list of action verbs. The whole industry seems hit or miss, and the fact that they raised the price to $300 shows they know people are desperate enough to pay it. Good call on telling people to get the details in writing first, that could save someone a lot of money and heartache.
