My mechanic's career advice landed me a better gig
So I was complaining to my mechanic Dave about hating my delivery route last spring... he just shrugged and said "you're good at moving through traffic, why not try dispatch?". I laughed it off but 6 months later I applied for a dispatcher position at the same warehouse and got it. Turns out knowing the roads from behind a wheel actually helps with routing trucks. Has anyone else gotten solid career advice from someone outside their field?

Dave's advice worked but most mechanics should just stick to fixing cars.

My buddy Mike took his old Ford Focus to one of those mechanic-turned-financial-advisor types last year. @amy302 you are spot on because Mike ended up with a bunch of debt from bad stock picks the guy recommended and the car still had a broken alternator after all that. He spent like three months trying to dig himself out of that hole and the shop had to get a real tech to fix the car in the end. Sometimes people just need to know their lane, you know?
