Showerthought: Making a basic tool at home pushed my career forward
Early in my career, few people learned skills online. I felt stuck because my old job methods were becoming outdated. I started watching free coding videos every night after dinner. For example, I created a simple script to organize my work files. That little project SHOWED my boss I could handle tech tasks, leading to a promotion. Now, I tell friends to always learn a new skill with a real project. It really helps you grow in your job.

riley_singh's script probably helped them stand out (like a quiet signal), which matters more than just luck.

Is that really all it took for a promotion? Sounds more like you got lucky with a boss who noticed. Most places wouldn't care about a small script unless the timing was just right. It's not a real plan for career growth.

luna_wells57, I used to think that, but my promotion after a script proved it's planned effort.
