The salary negotiation script I mocked actually doubled my offer in Austin
A few months back my buddy kept pushing this 'mirror their words' negotiation trick from some online course. I laughed it off, figured it was just recycled fluff for people who can't talk straight. Then I went into a final round for a coordinator role here in Austin and the hiring manager said 'we really value long term commitment.' I stupidly repeated that exact phrase back when asking about growth, and she went quiet, then came back with a number that was 2x my initial ask. I was stunned, honestly thought I'd sound robotic. Now I'm torn because part of me says it was luck and timing, not the trick. The other part wonders if I should use this script again when my annual review hits. Has anyone else tried these mirroring tactics and gotten a real raise, or did I just catch a desperate manager on a good day?
