Took a 3 month trade course instead of a 4 year degree and it paid off faster
I was stuck working retail in Phoenix for 2 years making $15 an hour and couldn't figure out how to move up. So I signed up for a 12 week welding certificate at our local community college for $1,200 total. Six months after finishing I landed a job at a metal fabrication shop making $22 an hour with full benefits. Has anyone else here taken a short trade program and seen a big jump in pay?

My HVAC cert took 10 weeks and doubled my pay to $24 an hour right away.

Not sure I buy that @morgan_jenkins90. That cert is a solid move but $24 is still tough in a lot of places.
