Warning: Spent $600 on a fancy certification that did nothing for my career

Last year I dropped $600 on some project management cert that promised to open doors. Took the course, passed the test, added it to my LinkedIn. Six months later, zero interviews mentioned it, zero clients cared. I work for myself now doing HVAC, and not a single customer asked about it. Just felt like I needed to warn people who might be thinking about dropping cash on certs without checking if employers in their field actually value them. Has anyone else made a similar mistake with a pricey license or course?

Man, that stings... it's like people think just paying for a piece of paper is enough. I've noticed this same pattern everywhere, not just with certifications. People spend money on apps, gadgets, even fancy coffee machines thinking it'll change their whole life overnight. But really, if nobody in your actual world cares about that shiny thing, it's just another bill. Sorry your wallet had to learn that one the hard way.

Have you ever noticed how companies actually profit more when people fail at using their stuff? Like they sell you the dream, but the real money comes from all the people who buy it and never follow through. So in a weird way, the system is built to keep you spending, not succeeding.
