Watched a hiring manager at a Denver job fair read resumes in 30 seconds each
I went to a job fair in Denver last Thursday and stood near a table where a hiring manager was going through a stack of resumes. She spent maybe 30 seconds on each one, mostly just scanning the top third of the page, and the ones with a clear job title near the top got set in a different pile. Has anyone else seen this up close, and does it change how you'd set up your own resume?
Ugh that is so rough to watch and honestly kind of soul crushing when you think about how much time people put into those things. I mean you spend hours tweaking every bullet and then somebody gives it half a minute and moves on. I feel for everyone at that fair because it's not their fault the system works that way. It does make me think twice about how I'd lay mine out though, like maybe the job title should just be right there at the top instead of buried under a summary paragraph nobody reads. idk it's depressing but also kind of useful to see it happen in real time. Sorry you had to stand there and watch it, that had to sting a little even from the outside.
