Why does nobody tell you to ask for the salary range before the first interview?
I applied to 40 jobs in Seattle over 3 months and got nowhere until I changed one thing. Instead of prepping answers to "what are your salary expectations," I started asking the recruiter for the posted range before I even agreed to a phone screen. Two companies pulled back right away, which saved me about 6 hours of prep each. The other 8 gave me a number, and I stopped walking into interviews blind. My offer went from $68k to $81k just by knowing the range up front and not lowballing myself. Has anyone else tried this, or do you just wait for them to bring it up?
