Bought a $12 rasp at a yard sale in Boise last weekend and it cuts faster than the $45 one I got new
Picked up an old Simonds half round at a yard sale off State Street for twelve bucks. Teeth looked worn but I figured what the hell. Been shaping some white oak chair arms with it all week and it eats through end grain smoother than the new one I bought two months back. I think the old steel is just harder, the new file skates unless I lean on it. Guy selling it said his dad ran a cabinet shop here in the 70s and these were the workhorses. Anyone else notice old hand tools holding an edge way longer than the new ones, or did I just get lucky with this one?
