I think self-leveling compound gets way too much hype
Everyone swears by it for subfloor prep but I've watched three DIY jobs fail because people dumped it on without reading the moisture specs. Has anyone else had better luck just sticking with plywood patching for small uneven spots?

You watched three DIY jobs fail because people ignored moisture specs? What kind of moisture issues were they missing - vapor drive from concrete or just wet slab from pouring too soon?

Oh man, I've seen the exact same thing! I watched my buddy try to level a garage floor and completely ignore the vapor barrier situation, and it ended up bubbling and cracking within two months. I mean, I still use the stuff but only if I'm 100% sure the slab is bone dry and I've got the right primer down.
