My first apprentice just nailed a solo project

I've been teaching him for six months. When he showed me the finished frame, I knew all the time was worth it. He even caught a mistake I might have missed.

Oh wow, that's awesome! It taps into this thing I notice everywhere, where people really step up when you trust them with something real. Like my neighbor's kid just started walking dogs alone, and suddenly he's the most responsible person on the block. It's that jump from watching to doing where magic happens. Your story totally captures that proud, quiet moment when the teaching pays off. Makes me believe most folks are just waiting for a real shot to show what they can do.

Totally get that. It's like the first time I let an apprentice measure for a fence post on their own. My hands were sweating more than his, just watching from the truck. He came back with numbers that were actually right, and I had to pretend I wasn't shocked. Sometimes you just have to let go and hope they don't order a ten-foot gate for a four-foot hole.

My last apprentice totally botched his solo project after months of training.
