Took me 5 years to realize I was marking my cuts on the wrong side of the blade

I always marked my cuts on the waste side but then my buddy asked me why my miters were always a hair off. Turns out I was measuring from the wrong tooth on my saw blade this WHOLE time. Anyone else have a basic habit they had to unlearn after years of doing it wrong?

Funny thing is I was doing the opposite - marking on the good side and hoping for the best. Actually learned the trick from an old finish carpenter who said the blade kerf is your real measurement, not the tooth. Still catches me off guard when I switch between my thin kerf and full kerf blades.

Haha I feel that @ericjackson, I once spent a whole afternoon blaming the saw until I realized my tape measure had a bent hook on it lol.
