Had a line cook call out my knife angle on the flat top
I was working the breakfast shift at a diner in Buffalo and this kid fresh out of culinary school told me I was holding my spatula at too steep of an angle when flipping pancakes. He said it was making them tear on the edges. I changed it to a flatter angle the next morning and honestly my pancakes have been coming out perfect since then. Has anyone else had a small tweak like that totally change a basic task?

Yeah, nothing like a culinary school grad telling you how to flip pancakes while you've been doing it since before they could spell 'spatula.' Must be nice having someone point out the obvious after you've already fixed it though, right? Guess the kid earned their keep for once.

So the kid basically showed up after the fire was out and pointed out where the smoke detector was... classic. Guess he figured out that whole "heat rises" thing all by himself, must be proud of that diploma. At least he didn't try to explain the whole chemical reaction of a pancake flip, small victories.
