PSA: Bought a rotary chimney whip last spring and it cut my flue cleaning time in half
I was still hauling my old 8 inch round wire brush up and down every flue, and on a two story house it was eating up a good 45 minutes. My supplier kept pushing a rotary whip setup with the drill adapter, and I put it off for months because I figured it would just tangle up on offsets. I finally grabbed one for $130 in March and ran it on a 30 foot masonry flue with two bends, and it followed the curve way better than the flat brush ever did. Cleaned that whole flue in about 22 minutes instead of the usual 50, and the creosote came off in bigger chunks so the shop vac didn't fill up as fast. The one catch is you really have to watch your drill speed on older clay liners or you can chew them up. Anybody else running a whip on the job, and what rpm are you keeping it at on flaky terra cotta?
