So back in 2021 I was doing freelance design out of my apartment in Columbus, Ohio, and this guy messages me on a Friday night wanting a full brand identity. Logo, business cards, the works. His budget was $50 and he said he needed it by Monday because his food truck was launching that weekend. I told him that wasn't really doable, and he goes, and I quote, 'just make it look expensive, I don't care how you do it.' I ended up slapping together something in Canva at like 1am and he paid me in cash at a gas station parking lot off High Street. These days I mostly do retainer work for two local companies, way less of this kind of thing, but honestly I kind of miss how simple the stakes were back then. I still wonder sometimes if that logo is out there on a truck somewhere. Anybody else ever take a job you knew was a bad idea just because the story was too good to pass up?
