I finally made clients read my scope doc before the kickoff call and it saved me from a 3 week logo rabbit hole
I used to just start working after a client said yes to the quote, and twice this year I ended up doing 11 rounds of logo changes for a bakery in Portland because they kept saying 'can we see it a little more rustic.' So last month I started making every new person read a one page scope doc and send back a thumbs up before we talk. This one guy pushed back hard, said it felt like homework, and I almost gave in and skipped it. But he read it anyway and in the kickoff he pointed at the line that said '2 rounds of revisions, then hourly' and said 'okay so no endless tweaks, got it.' We finished the whole brand in 9 days with zero drama. Has anyone else found a way to set limits up front without sounding like a jerk about it?

My old roommate ran a print shop in Austin and had the same problem with rush jobs, people would call at 4pm on a Friday and want 500 flyers by Monday. He started charging a flat rush fee that doubled after 3pm and the calls got way less stressful. Funny how a number on paper calms everyone down.
