Dropped $300 on a home composting setup and got nothing but flies
I bought one of those fancy countertop composters thinking I'd save money on soil and reduce my trash. After 6 months of following every tip I could find online, all I ended up with was a smelly bin full of fruit flies and mold. The thing claimed to break down food in 24 hours but my veggie scraps just sat there rotting. I live in an apartment in Chicago so I don't have a backyard for a proper pile. Has anyone actually made one of these indoor electric composters work without it turning into a science experiment?

Bought one of those countertop dehydrators years ago and ended up with a batch of what looked like dried cat vomit instead of anything useful. Had to toss the whole thing out lol.

Honestly it feels like half the gadgets we buy now try to solve problems that nature already had a system for. I mean you just think about it for a second and something that claims to break down food in 24 hours sounds too good to be true but we still want to believe it works. Maybe it's just me but sometimes the old ways like a worm bin or even just freezing scraps until trash day actually work better than all the fancy tech.
