Just realized my old window AC was costing me $40 a month, swapped it for a $120 used one off Facebook
So I live in a 1920s apartment in Pittsburgh with these terrible single pane windows. My old window unit was from like 2008 and my July electric bill was $187, which felt insane for a 600 sq ft place. A neighbor mentioned he had a newer used unit he'd sell for $120, and my bill dropped to $143 the next month, basically paying for itself in 3 months. Anyone else swapped an old AC and seen a real drop, or is there a better move short of asking my landlord to replace the windows?
I mean, a 2008 unit running for 16 years is gonna be way less efficient than something newer, so yeah the savings sound about right. Landlord replacing windows would help more in the long run but good luck getting a Pittsburgh landlord to do that for a 600 sq ft place.
