Rant: I spent $400 on a home energy audit that basically told me to close my curtains
So, I got this audit done about six months ago because I wanted to make my house more efficient and cut down on gas use. The guy came out with a blower door and thermal camera, spent a few hours, and gave me a big report. The main, expensive suggestion was to add more attic insulation, which I knew about. But the other half of the 'action plan' was stuff like 'use heavy drapes at night' and 'unplug your toaster.' I felt like I paid a premium for common sense tips you can find online for free. On one hand, I guess the blower door test showed some real air leaks. On the other, it feels like a lot of money for advice that wasn't very deep. Has anyone else had a home energy audit that actually gave you surprising, useful info you couldn't have figured out yourself?

Check the report again because the blower door test data should show your biggest air leaks on a diagram, which is the real value you paid for. Did they give you a map of where the cold air is actually getting in?

My report is basically a sad connect-the-dots.

Look at the bright side, a connect the dots picture is still a picture. Did they actually find a real problem or just a bunch of minor stuff? Sometimes those reports make a big deal out of normal house stuff.
