Just realized my file naming system was the real bottleneck, not my folders

I spent weeks sorting everything into perfect folders, color coded tags, the works. Then last Tuesday I timed myself finding an old client brief and it took 9 minutes because I had to open five files to guess which one was the final version. I switched to a simple name pattern like YYYY-MM-DD_Project_Type_Version and now I can spot the right file in seconds. The folders still matter but they were hiding the real mess. I also started adding a one word status at the end like DRAFT or FINAL and that killed the duplicate file problem. Has anyone else found their folder system was fine but the names were what needed fixing? What pattern do you use for version control on file names?
