My desktop folder hit 47 files last Tuesday and I finally admitted the problem
Honestly I used to just dump everything on my desktop and tell myself I would sort it later. Last Tuesday I counted 47 files sitting there, including three versions of the same logo and a tax PDF from 2022. Now I keep one folder called INBOX and I empty it every Friday before I log off, no excuses. It takes maybe 8 minutes and I have not lost a file since I started doing it in March. My old way was basically a junk drawer and I kept pretending it was fine. If you are still saving stuff to your desktop, what finally made you stop?
How did you finally make yourself stop though? I feel like the hard part isn't knowing the mess is there, it's actually doing something about it instead of closing the window and moving on with your day. My desktop was the same kind of junk drawer and I just kept telling myself it was fine because I always found what I needed eventually. The three versions of the same logo thing got me too, I had stuff like "logo final" and "logo final real" sitting around for way too long. I might steal your Friday INBOX idea since it sounds way less painful than a big cleanup day.
