Hit 50 prints this month that had the wrong color profile embedded

I work at a small shop in Portland and we ran the numbers yesterday. Fifty jobs in one month where the customer supplied RGB files claiming they were CMYK. Some even had a note saying 'converted to CMYK' but the metadata showed sRGB. That's gotta be some kind of record for us. Anyone else seeing a spike in this lately or is it just our clients?

Fifty jobs? That sounds a lot like operator error to me. I've been in this game twenty years and the color profile thing is usually a settings issue on the RIP or the preflight software not actually checking what it says it's checking. I had a guy last year swear up and down every file was wrong until we found his calibration was stuck on an old monitor profile... turned out 45 out of 50 were perfectly fine CMYK files, just tagged wrong in the header. Maybe look at your own workflow before blaming the clients, especially if they're paying you to catch this stuff.

Man, tell me about it. We had a stretch last month where every third file was an RGB mess tagged as CMYK. It’s like clients just click "save as" and hope for the best these days. Drives me crazy.
