Picked spot varnish over soft touch for 500 menus and every single one feels greasy now
Had to choose between spot varnish on the logo or a soft touch coating for a cafe's 500 menus last month, and I went with the varnish to save about $140 on the run. The proof looked great on screen but nobody warned me the varnish would sit right where people grab the fold, so three weeks in the whole stack feels tacky and the owner says they stick together. Now she's asking if I can reprint at cost and I'm out the press time either way. Should I have just eaten the $140 for soft touch, has anyone talked a client out of the cheaper finish and lived to tell it?
