Tried Pantone to CMYK conversion on a skin tone, got swamp monster green

Was fixing a flyer for a local band in Nashville last month. The poster had this cool orange skin tone on the cover art. Did the conversion straight from the Pantone book, trusty old formula guide. Printed 500 copies at the shop and everyone on stage looked like they had gangrene. My fault for not doing a test strip first. Lesson learned, but man, that was a rough batch to toss. Anyone else just trust the chart and regret it?

Chart values are just a starting point, not a hard promise. You skipped the test strip and paid for it, but that's on the workflow, not the conversion method itself.
