Found out my screen brightness was lying to me for 2 years

I was checking a client's brochure proof and the oranges looked perfect on my monitor, but the printed sample came out muddy. Turns out my display was set to a vivid preset that boosted saturation way past what a normal screen shows. I calibrated it with a $40 device last weekend, now I recheck everything on the new profile. Has anyone else had a display setting mess up their CMYK proofs like this?
