I thought soft proofing was a gimmick until my client's brand blue came back purple
I always skipped the soft proof step in Photoshop because it felt like extra work. Then I sent a poster to a local shop in Portland and the navy blue came out straight purple on 200 sheets. That was $340 wasted. A guy at the print counter walked me through setting the proof profile to the exact press they use, and the screen shifted to show the duller, greener blue I would actually get. Now I toggle it on before every file and haven't had a surprise since March. Anyone else got a proofing setup they trust more than the default CMYK preview?

$340 wasted" on a lesson most of us learn the hard way. Just think of it as tuition for the school of hard knocks, print edition.
