My print shop switched from cheap paper to a heavier stock and my colors went from flat to popping overnight
I run a small shop out of my garage in Tucson and for about 8 months I was printing everything on the cheapest 80lb gloss I could get. A job for a local band came back looking super dull, like someone turned the saturation down halfway, and I almost re-ran the whole batch thinking my ink was bad. Turns out the cheap paper was soaking up way more ink than the coated stock I switched to 3 weeks ago. Same file, same printer, same CMYK settings, but the new paper made reds and blues look like what I saw on my screen. I ended up reprinting all 250 flyers for free because the first run looked so sad. Has anyone else had a paper swap fix their color issues before they touched a single profile setting?
