The prepress guy at our old shop said 'pick your blue under a window, not a lamp' and it saved my last 200 menus
I used to pick every color in my files at night with a warm desk lamp on, and my navy always turned out flat and purple on paper. The prepress guy at the shop I worked at two years ago looked at one of my proofs and told me to pick my blues under real daylight by a window before I send anything out. I tried it on a 200 piece menu run for a cafe here in Portland and the blue came out right the first time instead of the third. Now I check any color I care about around 10 in the morning near the window and I write the hex down so I use the same one again. My desk lamp is still there but it does not get a vote on print colors anymore. What is your go to spot for checking colors before a big run, and does the time of day change what you pick?
