A courier thought my CNC shop could fix his blender blades
Had a courier drop off some steel stock yesterday, and he noticed the CNC machines. He asked if I could sharpen his blender blades since they were 'computer controlled.' I tried to tell him that's not how it works, but he was convinced I could just pop them in. Ended up showing him a quick demo on a scrap piece, and he left amazed but still confused.

Oh man, that makes me think about how people see "computer controlled" and just assume it's magic. They don't realize a machine built to carve shapes can't do the job of a simple grinding wheel.

That part where the courier thought your CNC could sharpen blades because it's computer controlled is something I hear a lot. My advice is to always have a cheap, dull knife or similar item in the shop for these cases. Showing them the machine working on a scrap piece does more than any explanation. It helps people see that CNC cuts shapes from solid material, it doesn't put an edge on things. They usually get it after that, even if they don't fully understand the machine.
