Found a blown cap on a 10 year old power supply last week that nearly took out a whole home theater setup

Caught a 10 year old PSU bulging myself last year, it was in an old HTPC that I'd been too lazy to replace. @morgan.cameron is dead on about the 8 year mark. Honestly, those cheap caps are like little grenades just waiting for a surge to pop. Ngl, I should probably start checking my receiver's board more often before it joins the ticking time bomb club.

That one trick for drywall mud that nobody tells you about

Oh man, that's such a good tip! It's funny how the smallest thing makes the biggest difference. I've noticed that patience is like the secret ingredient in almost everything, not just drywall mud. Like letting bread dough rest, or waiting for paint to fully dry before the next coat. People get in a hurry and then wonder why stuff goes wrong. It's like the universe is telling us to slow down and let things settle. That five minute wait probably saves you an hour of sanding later.

My concrete slab pour went sideways hard last Tuesday

Check the actual weather forecast for the next 48 hours before you pour, not just the day of. I had a similar soupy load once in Houston (total nightmare) and the real killer was the humidity and temp dropping fast overnight. That extra water on top of a wet mix plus a cold snap hitting before the slab set right turned it into a crack festival. Might have saved yours if you saw that coming and adjusted with some accelerant or at least covered it earlier.

Just realized my cheap beans aren't actually cheaper after talking to a farmer at the market

Try soaking @sandra146's cheap beans a little longer before cooking... might help.

I always thought engineered hardwood was a cheap compromise until I installed it in my own basement

Must be something about my basement's vibe cause it totally should be warping by now. I half expect to wake up one morning and find the floorboards doing the wave like a crowd at a concert. Three years in and it's still flat as a pancake though. Maybe I just got lucky with the install or the humidity gods smiled on me that day.
