A lead guy in Wichita watched me run one part and said my rapid moves were 'scary fast'
I was running 800 IPM in the open air on a job that was already 2 hours behind, and he told me if he sees one more near miss he's taking my keys. Now I drop rapids to 50% for the first dry run, and honestly it's saved me at least one crash on the Fort Worth job last month. Has anyone else had a lead call them out on rapids?
Man, I felt this one. I read a thread on Practical Machinist a while back where a guy said his shop started making everyone run the first part at 25% rapid no matter what, and the old timers hated it at first but stopped complaining once the scrap pile got smaller. Something about how your brain just can't keep up with 800 inches a minute when you're watching a new setup, even if you know the code is good. The lead calling you out probably did you a favor, even if it felt like a shot at the time. Two hours behind makes you want to send it, but a crash puts you a whole shift behind.
