I used to tell every new guy on the floor that cheap indicators were a waste of money, that you needed to spend $200 for anything you could trust on a knee mill. Then I got curious last month and picked up a $15 one just to prove my point, and it read within 3 tenths of the shop's Mitutoyo on the same granite plate. I ran it through a full sweep on a 4 inch surface and it tracked the whole way. Now I'm not saying sell your Starrett, but has anybody else tested a cheap one lately and gotten the same result?
